How the Saatva Rx is Made

The Saatva Rx Mattress is designed for extra support and pressure relief to help alleviate discomfort associated with chronic back and joint conditions like herniated disc, arthritis, sciatica, and scoliosis, per the Saatva US site. Its hybrid construction features a dual-coil design and breathable foams for more airflow, enhanced back support, and body-contouring. Read on to learn what goes into the Saatva Rx Mattress.

Breathable Cover with Supportive Quilting

Let’s start with the breathable cover made of a soft organic cotton blend for cooler sleep. The cover’s proprietary Lumbar Zone® Quilting offers the sleeper extra support in the center third of the Saatva Rx Mattress for healthy spinal alignment. It is quilted with comfort foams and a natural thistle flame barrier. Saatva’s exclusive Guardin™ plant-based antimicrobial treatment restricts mold, mildew, and bacteria growth for the freshness of the sleep surface.

Gel-Infused Memory Foam

A layer of 1/2-inch memory foam infused with gel draws heat away from the sleep surface. It also helps minimize body impressions from forming over time for more consistent comfort. In tandem with the Lumbar Zone® Quilting above it, this layer offers extra support and durability in the mattress middle. Some people look for a mattress with extra lower back support features.

Contouring Micro-Coils

Saatva continues to innovate with its 1-inch micro-coil layer, encased by dual foam layers. Unlike conventional coils, the micro-coils are more flexible for better body-contouring. This construction encourages pressure relief and a density that is less likely to feel overly soft or too firm. Stronger micro-coils, both in the lumbar zone and along the perimeter, may improve back support for some sleepers as well as overall mattress durability.

Plush Foam

Two high-density foam layers encase the contouring micro-coil layer. At 2 3/4 inches, these plush layers help cradle the body.

Therapeutic Support Core™

Saatva’s Therapeutic Support Core™ in the Rx Mattress features an Rx Wave-Tech® Foam Layer and an 8-inch Comfort Coil Unit with high-density foam rails. Here’s more about the coil part of the core.

Responsive Coil Unit and Foam Rails

The 8-inch individually wrapped coils are made from triple-tempered 14.5-gauge recycled steel for durability. The coils move independently to adjust to the body’s shape and movements. Also, the Saatva Rx features high-density foam rails to improve edge stability and firmness. Better edge support helps some people get on and off a mattress more easily.

See Buyer Reviews

Cooling Wave-Tech® Foam Support Core

For even more pressure relief and temperature control, the unique Therapeutic Support Core™ features Saatva’s proprietary Rx Wave-Tech® Foam Layer. The foam has a unique 5-zone design. This layer is engineered to be responsive like natural latex foam and body-contouring for comfort like memory foam, per Saatva’s US site. Offering cooling benefits, the foam is infused with graphite and phase-change material.

Support Foam Base Layer

The Saatva Rx Mattress has a high-density base support foam layer below the 8-inch coil unit. This final layer helps stabilize the coils.

Choose Your Saatva Rx Mattress Size

It’s important to find the right size mattress for your home, whether you’re a single sleeper in an apartment or a couple in a master bedroom suite. At 15 inches high, Saatva Rx is available in many standard US mattress sizes:

  • Twin — 38” x 75”
  • Twin XL — 38” x 80”
  • Full — 54” x 75”
  • Queen — 60” x 80”
  • King/Split — 76” x 80”
  • Cal King — 72” x 84”

Split king is two separate twin XL mattresses. Some couples choose a split king configuration if they have different preferences for mattress firmness or use an adjustable base.

Check Size Prices

To determine if your existing mattress foundation, platform bed frame, standard bed frame, or adjustable base is compatible with the Saatva Rx Mattress, reach out to its manufacturer to confirm. Platform bed frames must be either a solid surface or a slatted platform with slats at least 3 inches wide and spaced under 4-inches apart. The right bed base offers the opportunity to improve sleep comfort and extend the life of your mattress.

Firmness

Saatva describes the Rx Mattress as Supportive Plush for firmness on its US site and assigns it a 3-4 on the mattress firmness scale used widely across the industry. On the 1-10 scale, 1 is the softest feel, and 10 is the firmest. The 3-4 range is generally considered medium soft. The plush sleep surface has a supportive core, encouraging spinal alignment. Exactly how the mattress feels can vary from one person to another, given sleep style, body size, and other factors.

Many side sleepers like a medium-soft mattress feel, and it may suit back and combination sleepers. For stomach sleepers, it is more likely to have enough support for those under 130 pounds than for those above this weight. Some people who prefer pressure relief at the hips, shoulders, and lower back may seek a mattress like this one, for its top layer that has quilted comfort foam and a lumbar support feature.

Saatva Rx Mattress Review: Pros and Any Limitations

Now that we’ve looked at Saatva Rx construction, it’s time to weigh the advantages and potential disadvantages. We have researched and reviewed the Saatva Rx Mattress. In our opinion, it offers the following benefits as well as a few minor limitations.

Pressure Relief, Support & Chiropractic Awards

Saatva Rx Mattress is likely to appeal to sleepers with back comfort in mind. From the dual-coil construction to the proprietary Lumbar Zone® Quilting, this mattress offers extra pressure relief for certain sleepers in the lower back, hips, and shoulders. This mattress has received the Congress of Chiropractic State Associations (COCSA) Seal of Approval.

Contouring memory foam and responsive coils help cushion joints, and there is extra lumbar support in the center of the mattress. The comfort and support layers of the hybrid mattress combine for a body-cradling feel for some sleepers. The Rx Mattress has been endorsed by the American Chiropractic Association (ACA), the biggest professional chiropractic association in the US. The ACA endorsement follows comprehensive testing and professional evaluation of the mattress for comfort and support by chiropractic doctors with relevant expertise.

Cooler Sleep

If you tend to sleep hot, you might seek a mattress with breathability and temperature regulation. Saatva Rx has a quilted cover made of a breathable organic cotton blend. In addition, the memory foam layer is infused with cooling gel that draws away heat. Also, the micro-coil layer is encased in an advanced Rx Wave-Tech® Foam Layer infused with cooling graphite and phase-change material.

About Deep-Pocket Sheets

At 15 inches tall, the Rx Mattress may require a fitted sheet with deep pockets for a proper fit. Otherwise, the risk is that a standard fitted sheet may slide off. Getting this extra accessory will likely be worth it for those sleepers who prioritize a thicker mattress for more luxuriousness.

Reduces Motion Transfer

A great feature for many couples, the 8-inch individually wrapped comfort coil unit helps reduce motion transfer. In other words, motion at one side of the mattress is better able to stay there. That means your partner is less likely to be disturbed if you move around or get off the mattress (and vice versa). That could make it easier to get an uninterrupted sleep.

Eco-Conscious

The Saatva Rx Mattress has CertiPUR-US® certified foams. This certification is awarded following rigorous testing of the foams to ensure they meet strict health and environmental standards. This highly respected label means the foams are made without formaldehyde, ozone depleters, or heavy metals like lead. The Rx Mattress is also GREENGUARD® Gold certified to meet certain health-based criteria for additional chemicals and has lower total VOC (volatile organic compounds) emissions levels, per Saatva’s US site.

In addition, the quilted cover is made with a blend that includes organic cotton, and the mattress has an exclusive botanical Guardin™ botanical antimicrobial treatment to inhibit bacteria, mildew, and mold growth. The mattress is fiberglass-free, too; it has a natural, plant-based thistle flame retardant made of wood pulp bonded with a bit of polyester. Finally, the base panels are made with REPREVE® recycled polyester.

Free White Glove Delivery

With Saatva’s free white glove delivery service, you don’t have to lift a finger when your mattress arrives at your home. Saatva includes hand delivery to your home and setup in your chosen room with your Rx Mattress purchase (solely in the continental US). They will even remove your old mattress if you select this option at checkout, with a few exceptions, such as a stained mattress.

Visit Site

365-Night Home Trial

It takes time to get used to a new mattress — even a luxury mattress designed for comfort. Saatva includes a 365-night home trial with the Rx Mattress to give you time to try it out and decide if it’s a good fit. At any time within 365 nights of delivery, you can contact Saatva to arrange a return and refund, or an exchange, minus a processing fee.

Not a Mattress in a Box

The Saatva Rx is not compressed, rolled, or shipped in a box. Depending on your point of view, this can be an advantage or a disadvantage. On the pro side, Saatva's free white glove delivery lets you sit back while it is delivered to your home, set up in your chosen room, and your old mattress removed, if you selected this option at checkout. Your mattress also won’t be damaged from compression in a box.

On the other hand, you have to schedule and wait for the delivery team. You don’t have the convenience of having your mattress shipped in a box while no one is at home.

Warranty

The Rx Mattress includes Saatva’s limited lifetime warranty, known as the “Friends for Life” warranty, starting the moment Saatva’s white-glove delivery team delivers it to you inside the home. For as long as you, the original purchaser, own the Rx Mattress, Saatva’s warranty covers defects due to workmanship and materials as written in their policy. If Saatva deems the mattress defective, they will replace it, or repair and recover it, based on the year you are in the warranty and other policy guidelines.

Always read warranty terms before buying, because a warranty can change at any time, and we are not responsible for any discrepancies.

Saatva Rx Mattress Review: Final Thoughts

Using innovative technologies and materials, Saatva designed a luxury mattress with extra support and pressure relief to help alleviate discomfort associated with sciatica, arthritis, scoliosis, and herniated disc (check details on Saatva's US site). From the quilted cover to the dual-coil construction and unique support core, Saatva Rx has many advanced features.

The Patented Lumbar Zone® Quilting, for example, offers enhanced support for the lower back and helps cushion joints. The flexible micro-coil layer and responsive, individually wrapped coils add extra pressure relief for some sleepers. Finally, the memory foam contours to the body shape, enhancing support for the lower back with a lumbar crown.

You may sleep cooler on the Saatva Rx Mattress, too. From gel-infused memory foam to the Therapeutic Support Core™, this mattress has advanced cooling materials.

There are potential disadvantages to the Saatva Rx, such as the processing fee if you return your mattress during the 365-night home trial. While not as convenient as delivery in a box for some people, Saatva’s free white glove delivery service includes setup in your room of choice, saving you time and energy.

Besides comfort and support, Saatva Rx has eco-conscious materials, including recycled steel coils and organic cotton. The mattress also has a plant-based flame barrier and GREENGUARD® Gold certification. Its foam meets CertiPUR-US® environmental standards, and the mattress features a botanical antimicrobial treatment.

We have researched and reviewed the Saatva Rx Mattress and believe it is a product that delivers value.

  • Free white glove delivery

How is the Saatva Mattress Constructed Differently?

This mattress is crafted when you order it. It has a coil-on-coil construction. It has a lower support base of strong 13-gauge tempered steel coils, and a higher level of Lumbar Zone® individually wrapped coils, as well as a comfy pillow top. The comfort layer contains patented Lumbar Zone® Active Spinal Wire to encourage healthy alignment and also memory foam. The half-inch gel-infused memory foam lumbar crown offers pressure point relief.

The sturdy edge support from the high-density foam rails may also appeal to you if you are looking for maximum surface space, which is important for partners who may sprawl across the bed as the night goes on. Saatva rates well online amongst its owners for great edge support.

Get Comfy with Saatva's Euro Pillow Top

While all-foam mattresses are known for providing close conforming, innersprings are much less so. Saatva’s Euro Pillow Top lets you get comfy, however, with 3 inches of contouring memory foam. This combination makes for a mattress with coils that contour to the body and foam that goes easy on pressure points like the hips, more so than a lot of other innerspring models.

Plus, the soft cover is hypoallergenic, which may help those with sensitivities sleep more comfortably. The cover has undergone an exclusive Guardin™ botanical antimicrobial treatment to combat the growth of bacteria, mold, and mildew.

The Euro Pillow Top also provides extra support for your lower back, thanks to Lumbar Zone® Quilting. The purpose here is to provide optimal spine alignment. Having good support at night can help provide much-needed relief on the pressure points.

Online reviewers mention the cushioned feel of this bed. It also is bouncy, as a good innerspring should be. If you are looking for a nice bounce, then this bed may be for you.

Helps You Keep Your Cool

Do you tend to sleep hot? With the Saatva Mattress, we tend to say staying cool is no sweat. The coils of this bed combine with the breathable cover to help you sleep cool and dry. The coils act as bellows to provide for good airflow. This action helps prevent body temperature from rising during the night, which can be uncomfortable and lead to sleeplessness. The breathable cover helps with cooling too as it promotes air circulation and wicks moisture away from the mattress.

The eco-conscious materials also include:

  • Organic cotton in the soft cover
  • Guardin™ botanical antimicrobial treatment
  • Innersprings made from recycled steel
  • Flame retardant barrier made with natural thistle pulp (fiberglass-free)
  • CertiPUR-US® certified foams
  • GREENGUARD® Gold certification

The CertiPUR-US® certified foams are made without harmful chemicals such as ozone depleters, heavy metals, or formaldehyde for a safer, healthier sleep environment. The GREENGUARD® Gold certification verifies low chemical emissions for cleaner indoor air based on testing of over 10,000 chemicals and over 360 VOCs (volatile organic compounds). These safety certifications are highly respected in the industry, given the high-quality standards they represent.

How Can Mattress Construction Affect Your Sleep?

Great question. First, let’s talk about the bounce of this premium mattress. There are pros and some drawbacks to it. You won’t feel like you’re in quicksand as you can move freely, unlike with some all-foam beds. On the other hand, this innerspring hybrid mattress does little to reduce motion transfer. Motion isolation is not a strength for innersprings in general. This feature may be important to you if you sleep as a couple; if your partner moves then you may move too as the mattress shifts position. For those who sleep alone or are deep sleepers, the motion isolation feature may not be very relevant.

It’s important to note here that the Saatva mattress is not flippable, unlike some other models we’ve reviewed. To help prevent sagging over time, some users rotate the mattress from head to toe once a year or more often.

Saatva Bed Firmness: 3 Options

Many mattresses, innerspring hybrid or otherwise, only have one firmness level. The Saatva Mattress is superior in our eyes for its 3 firmness options. They are:

  • Plush Soft – Softness of about 3 out of 10, as per the brand, whereby 10 being the firmest possible and 1 being extremely soft. Softer foams combine with individually-wrapped innerspring coils to essentially hug the body.
  • Luxury Firm – A firmness level of between 5 and 7, varying from individual to individual. It offers both support and comfort for a quality sleeping experience. In other words, it is medium firmness.
  • Firm – A firmer feel than the other two options, rating about 8 out of 10 for the average sleeper. As you lay on it, expect to feel a plushness that is then replaced with the firm support that you want.

Given these 3 available types of firmness, you can see that if you prefer 1-2 or 9-10, then the Saatva Mattress is likely not right for you. In this case, browse our other top mattress reviews to see others available.

We like the ability to customize the mattress according to your desired firmness level. Also choose the mattress thickness for your mattress: 11.5 or 14.5 inches.

So, how do you choose firmness? Start by thinking about your usual sleeping position.

Tip: Always good to read verified buyer reviews

See Buyer Reviews

Firmness Level and Sleep Position

The Plush Soft is more likely to suit you if you like to sleep on your side most nights and sometimes your back.

Meanwhile, Luxury Firm suits side, stomach, or back sleepers, especially if you switch between different positions during the night. It will also likely appeal to couples who like different types of firmness in their mattress.

Back and stomach sleepers typically gravitate toward firmer mattresses, so the Saatva Firm option makes the most sense there. It also is a contender if your doctor recommends you get a firm bed.

Saatva Mattress Sizes

The most popular sizes are available:

  • Queen – 60 x 80 inches
  • Twin – 38 x 75 inches
  • Twin XL – 38 x 80 inches
  • Full – 54 x 75 inches
  • King – 76 x 80 inches (Split King is two separate mattresses)
  • California King – 72 x 84 inches (Split Cal King is two separate mattresses)

Saatva Mattress for Back Pain Relief

While no mattress can guarantee an ease in back pain, the Saatva Mattress is designed to provide proper alignment of the spine. Specifically, it has patented Spinal Zone Lumbar Support technology, which means it is made to enhance and support the lower back (also called the lumbar region).

The individually wrapped coils of the mattress combine with this special tech to support back and spinal health. It also is made to provide balanced weight distribution across the mattress surface for optimal comfort.

The Saatva Mattress has even received the Congress of Chiropractic State Associations Seal of Approval. This prestigious award is given exclusively to products that meet the rigid standards for back and spinal health. The Classic Mattress has also been endorsed by the American Chiropractic Association (ACA), the largest US professional chiropractic organization. The ACA only grants endorsement to a mattress after it has passed rigorous testing, review, analysis, and evaluation for comfort and support by chiropractic doctors with specialized, related expertise.

In addition to its supportive core, the Saatva Mattress has firm edges. While many people do not realize it, strong edges indicate mattress durability and structural ability to provide support over a lengthy period.

The cover and layers of coils help with cooling too as they provide great airflow. Thus, someone who normally sleeps hot can enjoy an uninterrupted sleep rather than tossing and turning from overheating, which only exacerbates a back problem.

Lastly, the three firmness types available with this mattress mean it can accommodate a wide range of sleepers who seek a mattress with targeted back support features and have different sleeping positions. For instance, while a side sleeper might like the Plush Soft, a back sleeper might prefer a firmer version of the Saatva mattress.

To find out more, read our analysis for back pain sufferers of the best features to look for when mattress shopping, as well as why the Saatva Mattress is our top pick in this category.

Saatva and Team USA

Saatva has been selected as the Official Mattress Provider and Restorative Sleep Provider for Team USA athletes at the LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games. This exciting announcement shows Saatva’s excellent reputation and the power of sleep in helping top-class athletes rest and recover during global competitions. It also reinforces the importance of sleep in being at one’s best and that a quality mattress plays a key role in making that possible.

Adjustable Base Plus by Saatva

A useful addition to the Saatva Classic 11.5-inch mattress is their Adjustable Base Plus. It fits with all Saatva mattresses except for the Saatva Classic 14.5-inch innerspring.

The adjustable base features a power motor to lift the head and foot of the mattress for the most comfortable position for you to sleep, rest, read or work. Simply press a button on the remote to move the base to the desired level for either or both ends of the mattress. The mattress moves smoothly with it.

Saatva Adjustable Base Plus 650

With weightless, zero-gravity support, the Adjustable Base Plus from Saatva even has a preset so you can save your ideal sleep position and conveniently access it by pressing the remote’s memory button. Even when the base moves, the distance between the bed and wall stays the same, so that the side table stays within reach.

An extra luxury feature is the massage, also conveniently available using the included remote. Choose from three types of massage: full-body wave, leg, or head. Another useful feature is the under-bed lighting to help you see your way to the bed in the dark of night.

Finally, the adjustable base quietly moves so it won’t disrupt a relaxing experience. The extra features help to create a luxury bedroom experience.

Saatva Mattress Shopping Online & Home Trial

Free white glove delivery across the continental US comes standard with the Saatva Classic Mattress, which includes hand-delivery in your chosen room and set up. That saves you time and any worries about assembling your mattress.

A major benefit of online over in-store is the included sleep trial that essentially means you can try out the bed in your home for “X” number of nights to see if it meets your needs. This time is significantly longer than ten minutes in a showroom.

This innerspring hybrid mattress online comes with a 365-night home trial, beginning on the delivery date. That means you’re eligible to return the mattress within this period for a full refund if it does not meet your expectations, minus the processing charge for pickup. A buyer review described that they got peace of mind with the sleep trial when they were initially worried about buying a mattress online. The company also offers free mattress removal and includes a lifetime warranty. To request the removal of your old mattress at the same time as white glove setup, and removal of your foundation or box spring for free, simply check the associated box at checkout.

Please be aware that the Saatva warranty, home trial, and other policies related to the Classic Mattress can change over time, and we are not responsible for any discrepancies between our review and Saatva's latest policies. We encourage you to check the policies posted on the Saatva US site for the most current details, including what is included, what is excluded, and other important information to know before purchase.

Final Words about the Saatva Mattress

The Saatva hybrid bed has attributes of both innerspring and foam, providing the best of both worlds with contouring and support for sleepers. Also, it uses eco-conscious materials.

While it does not alleviate motion transfer, the mattress does come in different firmness levels, which we think is more valuable. Also select mattress thickness and size. Customizing this luxury mattress makes it more likely that you will get the comfortable sleep you desire. We give the Saatva Mattress high marks overall and, therefore, recommend it.

Six Helix Mattress Types

The six Helix Mattresses that we focus on here vary by amount of support and firmness. They are:

  • Sunset
  • Moonlight
  • Midnight
  • Dusk
  • Twilight
  • Dawn

The mattresses come in the most common sizes: Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, King, and California King. So you can choose which size best meets your needs. We love the ability to personalize the Helix Mattress by firmness and support, as we explain below.

Top 3 Features of the Helix Mattresses

  • Personalize Your Design
  • Great Edge Support
  • 120 Night Sleep Trial

Comparing Helix Firmness Levels

Sunset and Moonlight are soft for firmness level. So, what does soft or plush feel like? Imagine how it would be to sink into a cloud and you’ll be thinking along the right lines.

As for Dusk and Midnight, they both have a medium feel. When laying on either one, you would feel more like you are on top of it than sinking into it as you would with a softer option.

There is still a bit of give to a medium firm mattress though, unlike with a firm feel mattress. Twilight and Dawn are examples of the latter type; they are firmer than the four others.

How Much Mattress Support Is There?

The amount of support a mattress provides varies from model to model. A Helix mattress will be either a balanced support design or extra support. “Balanced” means that it distributes weight evenly to reduce tossing and turning in the night. Extra support refers to the feeling of an extra supportive mattress.

Within the softest options, the Helix Sunset mattress offers balanced support, while Moonight is designed for extra support. For the medium firm models, Dusk has extra support, whereas Moonlight has balanced support. Helix Twilight and Dawn are the firmest ones; Twilight has balanced support while Helix Dawn has extra support.

Sleep Positions and Helix Mattresses

Now that you see the differences in support and firmness for the six Helix hybrid mattresses, you are likely wondering which one to choose. The one that will feel the best and provide you the most comfortable, uninterrupted sleep, of course! But, which model is it? Obviously each body is different so what you prefer might not be the same for your best friend. But generally these are how users rate the models for different sleeping positions:

  • Side sleeper – Helix Midnight, Twilight, and Sunset get high marks from side sleepers for providing good pressure relief.
  • All sleep positions – Moonlight, Dusk, and Dawn each receive favorable ratings from back, side, stomach, and combination sleepers.

Please keep in mind that these reviews are for average weight sleepers. “Average” is between 125-225 lbs. Ratings may change with a lighter or heavier weight as it changes the feel of the mattress. We are simply pointing out the average ratings to give you an idea of what to expect from each Helix mattress we discuss here.

Hybrid Construction of the Helix Mattresses

Each of these beds are hybrid, meaning that they combine premium memory foam with innerspring. Rather than being all foam or all coil, they are a combination for the best of both worlds. They are well-made with great edge support to provide more surface room for rolling out, which is ideal if you regularly sleep with a partner. And if you sit on the edge of the bed to put on your socks, you’re less likely to roll right off than with one that has poor edge support.

The exact construction differs according to the model, which explains why they provide different levels of firmness and support. We like that the bed is personalized to you; choose the one that provides the best feel based on your unique body. When doing so, 36% report a better sleep quality with a Helix mattress than with their previous one. The design is meant to provide spinal support and alignment.

All six Hybrid mattresses share the ability to provide optimal airflow. Some reviewers online comment on the coolness of the mattress, which helps prevent you from waking up during the night due to feeling too hot. An Ultra-Cool Cover is available too if you want an upgrade.

Two optional bases are also available from Helix. They are the Helix Adjustable Base and Helix Platform Base.

Helix Adjustable Base

Optimize your sleep comfort by adding a Helix Adjustable Bed Base to your Helix mattress. This type of base fits many sizes of adjustable bed frames, including Twin XL, Queen, Split King, and Split Cali King.

Among the top features of the Helix Adjustable Base are:

  • Adjusts at the head and feet
  • Dual massage areas
  • “Zero Gravity” setting

The Helix Adjustable Base comes with a remote control that enables you to easily lift or lower the head and feet of the mattress. Achieve an elevation you like, whether you are reaching in bed, watching TV, or want to sleep.

Raising the head, for example, can be helpful for someone who has acid reflux. Raising the head and legs to achieve a seeming weightlessness or “Zero Gravity” can benefit someone who wants less pressure on their lower back. The remote even has memory settings so you can return to that same great position whenever you want to do so.

The Helix Adjustable Base also has 3D-Wave™ Massage Technology. Enjoy a massage for the head and legs with this built-in feature. There are three intensity settings; simply choose the one you prefer.

This durable, adjustable base is made of foam, steel, solid wood, and fabric upholstery. It has a minimalistic, modern appearance that completes the look of the bed, and reviewers explain that assembly only takes about 15 minutes. While there is no sleep trial included, there is free shipping to the home (contiguous US) and a 10-Year Limited Warranty.

Helix Platform Base

The Helix Platform Base is another option for a proper foundation. The wood frame is used in place of a mattress foundation. It fits with your selected Helix mattress as it comes in all the popular sizes, including Twin XL, Queen, King, and California King.

Helix offers two options for the Platform Base so that you get the look you want.

The two choices are:

  • Natural wood
  • White wood

The wood frame has a refined, minimalistic appearance, and it is made of top-quality natural materials. The bed rails are made of Appalachian hardwood, while the slats are sturdy Southern Yellow Pine, and the legs are Appalachian Maple. Those are the only materials, and all wood finishes are water-based, which means there are no volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that can potentially lead to nausea or headaches.

The Appalachian hardwood is reinforced for durability and strength.

Included with this Helix Platform Base is 30 night sleep trial so you can decide if it is right for you. At the time of writing this review, there is also a five-year limited warranty, and free shipping directly to your home in the contiguous United States, with a reasonable fee to Alaska and Hawaii.

Helix Mattress Sleep Trial and Warranty

Sunset, Moonlight, Midnight, Dusk, Twilight, and Dawn all come with a 120 night sleep trial. Rather than just having a few minutes in a store to lay down on a bed now you have 120 nights to test out the bed. Is it comfortable enough for you? Does it support you at your pressure points? Having a lengthy time to make sure it’s the right bed for you (and your partner) is great.

Furthermore, the Helix Mattresses come with an impressive limited lifetime warranty. Please note this only applies to the original purchaser of the mattress and has limitations. Also, we are not responsible for any changes Helix makes to the warranty, sleep trial, and other policies after our review publishes.

As for the mattress price, it is affordable. As it is online-only, there is no middleman. This means that there’s no extra cost to pay. It ships to your house and many reviewers explain they received their bed within a reasonable time.

Concluding Thoughts on Helix Mattresses

Now you have the comparison of six Helix mattresses: Sunset, Moonlight, Midnight, Dusk, Twilight, and Dawn. They vary by construction to provide different support and firmness, according to your sleep preferences. What they have in common is good edge support, premium materials, affordable prices, and personalization. After looking over all of the details, we recommend the Helix Midnight Luxe mattress. And if you look for a mattress for heavy people, we recommend the Helix Plus mattress.

Solaire is a Personalized Mattress for Couples

A standout quality we like about the Solaire and want to point out in this Saatva Solaire mattress review is the ability to configure the mattress to exactly how each person wants to sleep. There are two different aspects of customization for the Solaire: higher or lower, and firmer or softer. All customizations are generally easy to do with the included remotes, one for each side of the bed.

Let’s start with the higher or lower feature. For couples, if one partner wants to raise the back of the mattress while the other partner sleeps on a flat surface on the other side of the same mattress, that’s doable in Upper-Flex and Split King sizes. This feature is especially helpful for achieving a custom sleep position to help ease pressure in a sensitive area of the body. Certain sleepers seek pressure relief for the hips, shoulders, or lower back. As well, sleepers can elevate the legs by raising the mattress with the remote.

The Solaire Upper-Flex and Split King configurations enable you to raise or lower the head section on your specific mattress side (Upper-Flex) or your separate mattress (Split King or Split Cal King). With Upper-Flex, the foot adjusts together, while the Split sizes allow for independent foot adjustments. Being able to adjust the mattress like this, when used with a compatible adjustable base (sold separately), means many couples can stay close even with different sleep preferences.

There is also a Standard Solaire mattress configuration. It applies to the Solaire sizes available other than Upper-Flex, Split King, and Split Cal King. That includes standard King, standard Queen, and Twin XL. In the Standard configuration, both the head and foot can be elevated together, when used with a compatible adjustable base, for extra comfort, rather than on only one side.

There is a range of compatible bed setup options for the Solaire Mattress, with only the adjustable base offering the ability to raise or lower the head and feet:

  • Mattress foundation, box spring, or bunkie board
  • Standard bed frame with a required foundation or box spring
  • Platform bed frame with either a solid or slatted platform with slats at least 3 inches wide and spaced less than 4 inches apart.
  • Adjustable base to elevate head and feet, offering custom comfort. The Solaire Upper-Flex pairs exclusively with Saatva’s Adjustable Base Plus. The Solaire Split-King and Split Cal King pair exclusively with Saatva’s Split King and Split Cal King adjustable bases.

If you are unsure if your existing foundation or bed is suitable, contact its manufacturer to find out if it is compatible with the Solaire Mattress.

Firmer or Softer? Choose Individually with Saatva Solaire

As earlier mentioned, the Solaire mattress can also provide individual comfort for couples by changing firmness levels. There are an impressive 50 precise firmness options on each side of the mattress (Queen size and larger). Smaller sizes like Twin XL and Full do not have adjustable firmness on each side; instead, their firmness adjusts uniformly across the entire mattress.

The level of firmness is measured by 1-50 mm/Hg. So, what is mm/Hg? This scientific standard of pressure stands for “millimeters of mercury” and is known to be precise. Changing the firmness is done using the included Saatva mattress remote for custom comfort.

To better understand what to expect for mattress feel, Saatva assigns Solaire’s 50 firmness settings a numeric range on its US site, based on the industry-wide mattress firmness scale of 1-10. On this scale, 1 is the softest feel, and 10 is the firmest. The Solaire settings are:

  • 1-29 – 3-4 range (soft to soft-medium)
  • 30-39 –5-6 range (soft-medium to medium)
  • 40-50 – 7-8 range (medium-firm to firm)

The Solaire offers a range of firmness options in one mattress, which can appeal to those who want to change the feel of the same mattress or experiment with different firmness levels.

Saatva Solaire Mattress Review 650 2nd

Visit Site

And in case you’re wondering, the 3 configuration options available for this mattress come in many popular sizes too:

  • Standard
  • Upper-Flex
  • Split King

They all work with compatible adjustable bases for your optimal comfort, using just the press of a button. While you can change the firmness level on the standard design with a single remote, two remotes can be used at the same time with the Split King options. The standard Queen, standard King, and Upper-Flex models include two remotes, although only one can be used at a time.

Saatva Solaire: Pressure Relief and Different Sleep Styles

Whether a mattress offers enough support and pressure relief for an individual depends on many factors, including its firmness. As the Solaire Adjustable Firmness Mattress has a range of firmness settings, it’s adjustable to what feels most comfortable. For example, side sleepers are more likely to prefer settings 1-29 for its body-hugging feel that encourages pressure relief, as are lighter-weight individuals who often find mattresses overly firm. Settings 30-39 can feel comfortable and supportive for many light- to medium-weight people with a range of sleep styles, although stomach sleepers may need more support. Stomach sleepers are more likely to prefer settings 40-50, as are some plus-size sleepers, for a firmer sleep surface.

When it comes to pressure relief, one partner may want a softer or firmer surface than their partner. The Solaire makes that possible with the Upper-Flex and Split King configurations. It’s generally as easy as touching a button to get the desired firmness, although super soft and ultra-firm are not settings available. There are many choices for comfort, which may help some couples get better sleep quality, especially with the Solaire’s 6 quality layers.

Solaire Mattress Sizes

The Solaire is 13 inches high, with the most popular standard US mattress sizes available:

  • Queen – 60 x 80 inches
  • Twin XL – 38 x 80 inches
  • Full – 54 x 75 inches
  • King/Split – 76 x 80 inches
  • Cal King/Split – 72 x 84 inches
  • Upper-Flex Queen
  • Upper-Flex King

Split King is two separate Twin XL mattresses side by side. Meanwhile, Split Cal King is two separate 36 x 84-inch mattresses side by side. Split sizing lets each mattress move independently in the head and foot sections and can suit couples who want to set mattress to a different feel than their partner.

The Upper-Flex sizes are split at the head 30-inches down, so the heads can articulate or flex up separately without having a split the entire way down the mattress. The feet articulate (flex up) together. We confirmed this info via live chat on Saatva’s US site. Couples who share a mattress but want some independent movement may prefer these sizes.

Saatva Solaire Mattress Review: Constructed for Comfort and Support

While some mattresses focus on comfort or support, the Solaire provides both using 6 performance layers. On top is the soft pillow top for cushioning and breathability, made from an organic cotton blend. It has Lumbar Zone® Quilting for extra support in the center third of the mattress, where it is often needed. No fiberglass is used; instead, the mattress has a Paladin flame barrier made of a poly and rayon blend.

Below the pillow top is an ergonomic 5-zone natural Dunlop latex layer for enhanced lumbar (lower back) support and pressure relief. This latex material is naturally hypoallergenic, resisting mold, dust mites, and mildew, and the latex won’t off-gas, per Saatva’s US website. Natural latex is also known for breathability. The 1-inch layer has the targeted lower back zone that some people look for in a mattress for extra support in this area.

Tip: See why the Solaire mattress is the most precise bed ever made

See Solaire Overview

The third layer is 2 inches of gel-infused memory foam. While the memory foam contours the body, the infused gel disperses heat away from the body. Those who often overheat at night may look for cooling features in a mattress rather than traditional memory foam, which may lead to overheating. A cooler sleep may lessen the chances of waking up in an uncomfortable sweat.

Under the gel-infused memory foam layer is a moisture barrier layer to help protect internal mattress components from bacteria growth. The second-to-last Saatva Solaire mattress layer is the no-sink vulcanized air chambers with a multi-directional box baffle design. The purpose here is to provide even firmness throughout the mattress. Plus, the independent air chambers combine with the memory foam to help with motion isolation, a quality some couples look for to reduce the chances of feeling their partner move at night.

The final layer is the power edge enclosure for base stability. It houses the air inflator and hoses. That helps keep the valves and hoses out of sight. Some buyer reviews explain that the airbed motor is audible when inflating or deflating the mattress to adjust firmness. Whether a sound while the mattress moves is more important or less so than the Saatva home trial and warranty is a personal consideration.

Targeted Lower Back Features

Those seeking a mattress with extra features specifically for the lower back or lumbar area may come across the Solaire Adjustable Firmness Mattress. Its 5-zone natural latex layer may reduce pressure and support this area for some sleepers. Furthermore, the cover’s Lumbar Zone® Quilting offers more support in the center third of the mattress. Finally, the air chambers encourage even firmness across the mattress for more even support.

Our Thoughts on the Solaire Mattress Value, Warranty, and Home Trial

As part of the research for this Saatva Solaire Mattress review, we investigated the value. We think this airbed is a great value given its thoughtful construction. As explained in the previous section, each of the 6 layers offers sleep benefits for many couples.

Plus, the materials are premium, including the gel-infused memory foam. The natural materials, such as organic cotton in the cover’s soft blend, Guardin™ antimicrobial fabric treatment, and natural latex, and the use of CertiPUR-US® certified foams, can improve comfort for some sleepers, contribute to a healthier sleep environment, and matter to eco-conscious individuals.

Tip: The Solaire includes 365-night sleep trial & lifetime warranty - see more details on the brand site

See Warranty

Furthermore, the Saatva Solaire Mattress comes with a 365-night home trial, beginning on the delivery date. If you or your partner decides within this time that it’s not the right mattress for you, then return it for a refund, minus a processing fee.

Also, Saatva includes free white glove delivery with the mattress purchase, meaning the Solaire Mattress delivers to your home (in the continental US only) and is set up in the room you want. For those apprehensive about setting up furniture, this white glove service is likely great to have. Saatva will even remove your old mattress if you select this option at checkout (with certain exceptions).

Saatva Adjustable Base Plus 650

The Adjustable Base

The Saatva Solaire Mattress comes with a “Friends for Life” limited lifetime warranty, too. Some people look for a longer warranty when mattress shopping. As policies can change at any time, we encourage you to read the latest warranty details posted at Saatva's site to know what to expect, including what is covered, excluded, and other important details.

While the Saatva warranty, home trial, and other policies we reference in this Solaire Mattress review can change over time, we are not responsible for any future conflicts.

Conclusions on Saatva Solaire Mattress Review

After looking at the Saatva Solaire features, we realize that it is a well-constructed mattress made of quality materials that suits some couples with different sleep needs. The precise firmness variations, as well as 6 layers that include breathability, cooling, and contouring benefits, are highlights of this mattress.

Construction

At 13.25 inches high, the premium Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe Cooling Mattress features contouring and temperature control layers, as well as a coil core and high density foam base. Upgrading to the Cloud Pillow Top adds an additional 2 inches to the height. The following sections describe its construction in detail, including the advanced cooling materials and zoned coils for targeted lumbar support. The mattress comes in your choice of soft, medium, or firm for custom comfort. It is designed to support as much as 950 pounds.

Arizona Factory

Assembly of the Aurora Luxe Mattress occurs in Brooklyn Bedding’s Arizona factory, per its website, and it contains both domestic and foreign parts. For those wanting more construction details, this information is important.

GlacioTex™ Top Layer

The top layer of the standard Aurora Luxe Cooling Mattress is a GlacioTex™ Cooling Cover. The cool-to-the-touch fabric contains special fibers that remove excess heat from the body. That encourages a cooler, comfier sleep.

Cloud Pillow Top Add-On

If you like, you can add the ultra-soft, cooling Cloud Pillow Top to your Aurora Luxe order. That adds a pillow top to the GlacioTex™ Cooling Cover. Talk about comfort: this extra contouring layer provides even more pressure point relief. The dual foam layers and cooling fibers will leave you feeling like you’re sleeping on a cloud. This add-on pillow-top is expertly sewn to provide many nights of dreamy comfort, contour, and temperature control.

ThermoPhase Foam Layer

The upgraded mattress option (Aurora Luxe with Cloud Pillow Top) has a 0.75-inch layer of ThermoPhase Foam. It helps regulate temperature by absorbing and releasing heat. A more comfortable body temperature could help you sleep better, especially if you often overheat at night.

Quilt Foam

Brooklyn Bedding’s Aurora Luxe comes standard with a pressure-relieving quilt foam layer below its cover. This layer is important for mattress breathability, wicking moisture from the body while resisting body impressions for the best look and feel. The upgraded Aurora Luxe with Cloud Pillow Top has dual quilt foam layers (each 0.75 inches thick) for added airflow and even more comfort.

Responsive Foam

Next, for the standard version of the Aurora Luxe, is a 1-inch layer of dense 3.5-pound VX Copper Responsive Foam. It quickly responds to changes in your sleep position. The foam is infused with copper particles, which adds antibacterial properties and helps draw heat away from the body.

The upgraded Aurora Luxe with Cloud Pillow Top instead has a 1-inch VX 2.5-pound Responsive Foam layer. It contours and cushions the body, with cooling from its gel-infused foam layer beneath.

High-Density Memory Foam or Gel Swirl Foam

The Aurora Luxe has a 1-inch layer of 3-pound high-density (HD) memory foam. HD foam is known to contour the body for comfort and to provide better pressure relief than a less-dense alternative. It is also less prone to sagging and typically lasts longer than low-density foams.

The upgraded Aurora Luxe with Cloud Pillow Top does not have that layer; instead, it has a 1-inch Gel Swirl Memory Foam layer. The gel beads infused in the foam liquify at higher temperatures for relief and to help maintain a comfortable sleep environment. The premium layer may help sleepers who wake up in sweat avoid this discomfort.

Variflex Transition Foam

Next is a 1-inch layer of Variflex transition foam. This layer contours the body and offers balanced support.

8-Inch Ascension Zoned Coils

The Aurora Luxe Cooling Mattress core provides pressure relief and motion isolation, thanks to up to 1,032 steel Ascension Coils. The 8-inch core contains individually encased coils in a 3-zone design that provide lumbar support, reinforced edges, and low motion transfer. For couples, the motion isolation feature means that you won’t likely disturb your partner when you move or get out of bed.

Supportive Foam Base

All of these features work best with a sturdy layer of support. That’s why Aurora Luxe includes a 0.75-inch layer of supportive base foam. This layer adds a durable base that supports the compressed coils.

Three Firmness Options

The Aurora Luxe Cooling Mattress is available in three firmness levels. While Brooklyn Bedding does not give exact numbers for firmness on its website, we estimate the numbers below based on buyer reviews and feedback we read online. On the industry’s mattress firmness scale (1-10), 1 is the softest, and 10 is the firmest. The following numbers help give you an idea of what Aurora Luxe in soft, medium, and firm may feel like, though firmness can vary slightly from person to person:

  • Soft — provides pressure point relief and gentle contouring support that “hugs” the shape of your body. The soft version has a 2-to-4 rating on a firmness scale of 1 to 10 and is a good choice generally for side sleepers.
  • Medium — with a 4-to-6 firmness rating, the medium version strikes a balance between contouring and support. It provides contouring without the “hugging” effect and typically works well for combination sleepers (rotate between back, stomach and side sleeping).
  • Firm — the smooth, flat surface supports the lower back and prevents sinking into the mattress. With a 7-to-8 firmness rating, the firm version is often a good choice for back or stomach sleepers.

Sizes

You can choose from a wide range of sizes to find the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe that’s a good fit for your home:

  • Twin – 38 x 74 inches
  • Twin XL – 38 x 80 inches
  • Full – 53 x 75 inches
  • Queen – 60 x 80 inches
  • King – 76 x 80 inches
  • California King – 72 x 84 inches
  • Split California King – 38 x 80 inches (Order 2 for a set)
  • Short Queen – 60 x 74 inches
  • RV King – 72 x 80 inches

Works With Most Types of Foundations

You can use the Aurora Luxe Cooling Mattress with most types of foundations, as long as the foundation has little or no flex. Compatible foundations include

  • Platform
  • Slatted (Slats no more than 4 inches apart)

Mattress in a Box

Your Aurora Luxe mattress is shipped in a box directly to your door. Many people find it easier to move the box containing the compressed mattress to the bedroom than one that arrives full-sized. Simply take the mattress out of the packaging and let it decompress for 3 to 5 hours before using it, per Brooklyn Bedding’s site. Make sure the room is well ventilated so that the mattress can also air out. Full decompression and odor dissipation take up to 24 hours, but you can use the mattress after a few hours, per the brand site.

Safety Certifications

Brooklyn Bedding’s Aurora Luxe Cooling Mattress has two highly regarded safety certifications. The GREENGUARD Gold certification and CertiPUR-US® certified foams follow rigorous testing to ensure the mattress is made without harmful chemicals like specific flame retardants, mercury, lead, and formaldehyde. They also indicate a very low impact on air quality indoors, which often matters to sleepers with sensitivities and homes with kids, seniors, or pets.

120-Night Trial

Starting on the day you receive your mattress, you have a 120-night trial period to decide if you want to keep it. The company requires that you wait at least 30 days before returning it. You can return the mattress anytime within 30 to 120 days after you receive it, minus a small return fee.

Lifetime Warranty

The Aurora Luxe Cooling Mattress comes with a generous Limited Lifetime Warranty, which takes effect on the purchase date for the original purchaser only, who is defined in the policy. Coverage, exclusions, and responsibilities are outlined in the manufacturer’s policy to help you understand what to expect.

Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe Mattress Review: Pros and Any Limitations

After our research, we believe that the Aurora Luxe mattress has several advantages. We have also included areas where there is room for improvement.

Temperature Control and Superior Cooling

Waking up sweaty or feeling too warm can make it difficult to get back to sleep. You can sleep comfortably cool on the Aurora Luxe. The top layer of the mattress features cool-to-the-touch GlacioTex™ fabric, and the optional upgrade includes ThermoPhase Foam. The latter is a Phase Change Material that absorbs and releases heat, helping to maintain a steady temperature.

Plus, Copper Responsive Foam helps improve mattress cooling. Finally, the hybrid construction with open cell technology (both in the foams and coils) prevents heat retention and encourages better mattress airflow and breathability.

Excellent Motion Isolation

Do you or your partner toss and turn or get out of bed during the night? The Aurora Luxe’s core contains individually encased coils that isolate motion. That means that you can get in and out of bed in the middle of the night without disturbing your partner. Motion isolation can be a big help when it comes to getting a good night’s sleep. Plus, the mattress has reinforced edges that make getting on and off the mattress easier, as well as providing more usable surface space for the two of you.

Targeted Lumbar Support and Contouring

Depending on the firmness level, the Aurora Luxe provides the contouring and support that your body needs. The firm version keeps your spine in a neutral position and prevents your body from sinking into the mattress. The soft version creates a “hugging” effect and gentle support. If you and your partner have different sleep preferences, the medium version can provide a balance.

The three-zone coil design offers extra support in the lower back area. That may reduce morning stiffness for some sleepers and increase comfort for improved sleep quality. Plus, multiple foam layers combine for premium comfort and pressure relief, which can ease tension in sensitive areas of the body and encourage proper spinal alignment.

Convenient Mattress in a Box

With the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora, you don’t have the hassle of making an appointment for delivery or missing work on delivery day. Your mattress will be shipped free in a box within the contiguous US and delivered to your door while you’re at work or running errands. You won’t have to rearrange your day to meet a furniture delivery team.

120-Night Trial

Choosing a mattress is much easier when you know you have 120 nights to try it out. It can take weeks to get used to a new mattress, especially when two people are sharing it. If you decide after 30 days from the delivery date that the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe isn’t right for you, let the company know. You can return the mattress within 30 to 120 days after you receive it, minus a small return fee.

Decompression and Aeration

You won’t be able to use your mattress immediately after it arrives in a box. After you take it out of the box and remove the plastic wrapping, the mattress will have to decompress and aerate for at least 3 to 5 hours in a well-ventilated room. You can sleep on the mattress after a few hours, but it can take 24 hours for the mattress to be fully decompressed and odor-free, per Brooklyn Bedding’s site.

High Durability

The high-density foam layers, premium steel coils, and strong base layer combine for excellent durability. That often makes for a longer-lasting mattress, adding value to it as you are more likely to have it for a lengthy time.

Final Thoughts on Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe Mattress

Available in soft, medium or firm versions, the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe Cooling Mattress offers support and contouring for a comfortable sleep. Depending on you or your partner’s sleep preferences, you can have a smooth, flat sleep surface or gentle contouring. Cooling technologies combine to keep the mattress cool on contact, with the Pillow Top upgrade offering additional cooling and coziness.

You can choose from a variety of mattress sizes to suit your needs, each with three-zoned lumbar support. That extra support appeals to sleepers who seek extra reinforcement through the lower back and better spinal alignment.

Saatva Contour5 Construction Details

With a choice of two firmness levels, the Saatva Contour5 memory foam mattress is built to provide a balance of comfort and support. Here are the construction details.

Organic Cotton Blend Cover

The soft, knit  cover is made of an organic cotton blend. The breathable material helps keep the sleep surface cool and dry. Plus, an exclusive Guardin™ botanical antimicrobial treatment combats mold, mildew, and bacterial growth. The flanged and tape-edge construction of the cover anchors the layer and adds durability, and the waterfall knit design has a sleek, stylish look.

GREENGUARD® Gold Certified Flame Barrier

Saatva’s Contour5 Mattress is wrapped in a plant-based, fiberglass-free flame barrier. Made of tree-derived cellulose fibers, this layer encompasses all six sides of the mattress. The flame barrier is GREENGUARD® Gold certified, which means that it is screened for over 10,000 potentially harmful chemicals and VOCs (volatile organic compounds) to help maintain indoor air quality.

Advanced Phase Change Material and Lumbar Support

Next is an innovative layer of phase change material that absorbs and dissipates body heat to help keep the mattress surface cool and comfy for many sleepers. This CoolVent™ System with patented Lumbar Zone® PCM Matrix is advanced technology, regulating the temperature at the center third of the mattress, keeping the lumbar region of the mattress several degrees cooler. That may enhances support for your lower back as cooler foam can increase support.

Ventilated Gel-Infused Memory Foam

A 1.5-inch layer of ventilated, gel-infused memory foam offers body-contouring support, pressure relief, and cooling. The high-density 4-pound foam has airflow channels that reduce the chances of sleeping hot. The gel infusion has cooling gel benefits.

Ultra-Premium 5-lb. Memory Foam

The 5-pound memory foam layer gives the Contour5 a luxurious, contouring feel for some sleepers. The ultra-premium memory foam has a cradling effect. Moreover, foams that are high-density are known for greater durability. That may improve soothing pressure relief and resist body impressions from forming over time.

Transitional Loft Foam Layer

A loft layer eases the transition from contouring comfort layers to the denser support layer. This 2-inch layer is available in two firmness levels (Medium and Firm).

High-Density Base Support Foam

Made of 6 inches of high-density foam, the base layer supports the mattress layers above. That can enhance the stability, edge support, and durability of the Saatva Contour5 mattress.

Contour5 Sizes

The Saatva Contour5 comes in a full range of standard US mattress sizes. Every size is 12.5 inches thick.

  • Twin: 38″ x 75″
  • Twin XL: 38″ x 80″
  • Full: 54″ x 75″
  • Queen: 60″ x 80″
  • King/Split King: 76″ x 80″
  • Cal King: 72″ x 84″

Choice of Two Firmness Levels

The Saatva Contour5 is available in two firmness levels: Medium and Firm. The Medium option offers contouring comfort and support to reduce the chances of the hips sinking too far, encouraging proper spinal alignment. On an industry-respected mattress firmness scale of 1 to 10, with 10 the firmest and 1 being the softest, Medium has a rating of 5-7 by Saatva on its US website. A medium feel is generally best suited for side sleepers and back sleepers. It also works well for couples with differing comfort preferences and combination sleepers.

The Firm Contour5 model can be a great choice for stomach sleepers and those who prefer a firmer feel. If you love body-contouring memory foam but move around on the mattress frequently or sleep on your back, the Firm option may suit you. On the firmness scale, Saatva assigns the Firm as an 8. This option offers a responsive sleep surface with less body hugging. For those who want a firm mattress or weigh over 230 pounds, the Firm option may be the preference.

Saatva Contour5 Mattress: Pros and Any Limitations

We have researched and reviewed the Saatva Contour5 mattress. Below we discuss pros as well as any limitations.

Choice of Firmness Levels

When you buy the Saatva Contour5 mattress, you can choose the balance of comfort and support that’s just right for you by selecting one of the firmness options available. The 2-inch transition layer makes the difference; it comes in two firmness levels (Medium and Firm).

Cushioning without being super soft, the Medium option provides the body-hugging contouring that some people prefer. For example, side, back, and combination sleepers often seek pressure relief for the shoulders, hips, and back. For couples who can’t agree on firmness, Medium can be a great solution.

With the Contour5 Firm option, certain people who prefer a firm mattress can still benefit from pressure relief. The comfort layers contour to your shape without hugging, a sensation some people find uncomfortable. If you sleep on your stomach or just want to have an easier time moving around on the mattress, the firm feel may be a good choice.

Body Contouring Without the Heat

Unlike many traditional memory foams, Saatva’s gel-infused memory foam with airflow channels is designed to stay cool. That may prevent this quality foam from trapping heat as it hugs your body, with cooling gel for enhanced comfort.

Another innovative cooling feature is the CoolVent™ System with Lumbar Zone® PCM Matrix. Phase change material combines temperature control with targeted lumbar support. It helps keep the sleep surface  cooler in the center third of the mattress to enhance lower back support and provide relief for some hot sleepers.

Eco-Friendly Materials

As you drift off to sleep on the Saatva Contour5 mattress, you may want to know that Saatva uses foams that are certified to be made without specific chemicals and ozone depleters.

The CertiPUR-US® certification means that the foams meet strict standards for potentially harmful chemicals, such as formaldehyde and mercury, and are low in VOC emissions. GREENGUARD Gold® certification of the plant-based flame barrier means it has been screened for over 10,000 chemicals and VOCs for cleaner indoor air quality.

Saatva does not ship mattresses in a box, but the company does offer a free white glove delivery service. The Saatva team hand-delivers the mattress to your home and sets it up in-room. The delivery partner will contact you to schedule a four-hour delivery window; there is no fee if you have to cancel the scheduled time. The delivery team will set up the new Contour5 in the room of your choice. They will also remove your old mattress for free if you select that option at checkout, with certain exceptions, such as a stained mattress.

365-Night Home Trial

You can take your time deciding if the Saatva Contour5 is a good fit. The mattress comes with Saatva’s 365-night home trial which lets you sleep on it for a year from the delivery date. That’s a generous trial period.

Saatva will then contact you to arrange a pickup and issue a refund minus a processing fee.

Lifetime Warranty

The Saatva Contour5 mattress has a manufacturer’s lifetime warranty on defects in workmanship and materials, per its policy guidelines. Warranty details can change at any time, so make sure you read the warranty posted at Saatva's site for the latest details (we are not responsible for discrepancies) before buying the mattress. For the first 2 years, Saatva will replace a mattress it deems defective free of charge. Beginning in year 3, Saatva will repair and re-cover a mattress it deems defective for a processing fee.

Final Thoughts on the Saatva Contour5 Mattress

With premium high-density memory foam and advanced cooling technology, the Saatva Contour5 is designed for comfort and support. The customizable firmness level lets you choose the right memory foam mattress feel for your sleep preferences.

We’re especially impressed with the patented Lumbar Zone® PCM Matrix, which enhances lumbar support as it regulates temperature. It’s an example of the innovative design you’ll find in the Saatva Contour5. Another advanced feature is the ventilated, gel-infused memory foam to avoid trapping heat as it contours to your body.

These advanced materials offer a comfortable sleep surface that is planet-friendly, too. The Contour5 high-density foams are CertiPUR-US® certified free of specific harmful chemicals after undergoing strict testing. The plant-based flame barrier is GREENGUARD® Gold certified, which means that it has passed screenings for more than 10,000 chemicals. Some people look for these certifications before bringing a mattress into the home, especially those with sensitivities or who make choices based on environmental impact.

The generous 365-day home trial that comes with the Saatva Contour5 mattress is a benefit. Along with the manufacturer’s lifetime warranty, the trial period can make choosing a top memory foam mattress easier. We think the free white glove delivery and removal service is a nice bonus, too.

After our research and review, our team found many reasons to be impressed with the Saatva Contour5 memory foam mattress. We recommend this mattress for many side, back, stomach, and combination sleepers seeking custom options for firmness and value.

Is Your Mattress Bad for Hip Pain?

Is hip pain keeping you awake at night? If your mattress doesn’t provide the right balance of cushioning and support, it could be aggravating your hip pain. The pain can travel from one or both hips to your legs and back.

Whether the cause of your hip pain is injury, arthritis or other issues, the pain can be worse when you’re lying down. If you have hip pain, look for a mattress that relieves pressure in your hips and keeps your spine in alignment.

What to Look For in a Mattress for Hip Pain

The best mattress for hip pain will conform to your body without being too soft and provide support without being too firm. You want to avoid that sinking feeling that throws your lower back and pelvis out of line. Below are features to look for in a mattress for hip pain.

Firmness

Firmness is a key feature when looking for the best mattress for hip pain. Unless you tend to sleep on your stomach, the lack of cushioning in a firm mattress can make hip pain feel worse. Generally, a medium-soft feel provides the right amount of cushioning if you sleep on your side. If you sleep on your back, a medium-firm mattress is a good choice because it cushions your body without letting your hips sink down. For stomach sleepers, a medium-firm to firm mattress helps keep the spine properly aligned.

Contouring

A contouring mattress cradles your body and conforms to the natural shape of your back, shoulders and hips. Memory foam, which conforms to your body shape and then springs back, is an example of a contouring surface. Without contouring, the natural shape of your body is not supported and your lower back and hips can be thrown out of alignment. The result can be hip pain and a restless night.

Pressure Relief

When a sleep surface conforms to your body shape, it relieves pressure in your lower back and hips. A flat, firm surface can create pressure on your lower back and aggravate hip pain. A contouring surface, on the other hand, relieves pressure as it supports and cushions your hips.

Zoned Support

Some of the best hip pain mattresses are designed to provide support in areas that need in most — particularly your lower back, shoulders and hips. A zoned mattress has a firmer feel in the center and a softer feel at the head and foot. Zoning supports your pelvis and prevents your hips from drooping into the mattress.

Edge Support

If you have hip pain, the last thing you need is a mattress that sags in some areas — particularly along the edges. Sagging mattress edges can aggravate aching hips by making it difficult to get out of bed. Mattresses have a variety of edge support features. For example, a coil core can have reinforced coils at the edges of the mattress. A high-density foam base can provide edge support.

Cooling Technology

A comfortably cool mattress can help your body relax when it’s time to fall asleep. From moisture-wicking to aeration, a variety of cooling technologies are used in the best mattresses for hip pain:

* Gel layer

* Breathable mattress cover

* Breathable cool core

* Perforations

* Air channels

What Mattress Types Are Good for Hip Pain?

When you’re shopping for the best mattress for hip pain, look for a combination of support and contouring. Read the following sections to find out what types of mattresses are good for hip pain.

Memory Foam

A memory foam mattress cradles your hips without letting you sink into the mattress. On a medium mattress, a top layer of memory foam relieves pressure in key areas such as the spine and hips. As it conforms to your body shape, it keeps your spine in a neutral position. Pressure relief and contouring can work together to help relieve hip pain.

Some foam mattresses have a high-density foam transition layer and base layer. These additional layers provide durability and help prevent the mattress from sagging. Your back and hips will have consistent support that will help you sleep comfortably.

Latex

A latex mattress has a firmer feel than a memory foam mattress, but it still has a cushioning effect. It is less conforming to your body shape, so it does not “hug” your body the way memory foam does. You may therefore find it easier to change position without straining your lower back and hips on a latex mattress. Latex does not retain heat as much as memory foam, so it’s a good alternative if you tend to wake up feeling hot.

Innerspring

Admittedly, an innerspring mattress on its own may not be the best mattress for hip pain. The surface tends to be quite firm, which puts pressure on aching hips. One beneficial feature of innerspring mattresses is the breathable coil core, which helps prevent overheating.

If you already have an innerspring mattress, a softer top layer can help relieve hip pain so you can sleep comfortably. For example, a memory foam mattress topper can add a contouring layer to an innerspring mattress.

Hybrid

Hybrid mattresses combine the breathability of a coil mattress with the softness of memory foam. Your aching hips will appreciate the support from the coil core along with the pressure relief from the top comfort layer.

This type of mattress may have high density foam layers for edge support and durability. The coil core may be zoned to target extra support to your back and hips. A hybrid mattress may have a cooling cover made of breathable fabric or cooling gel.

How Does Sleeping Position Affect Hip Pain?

The best mattress for hip pain partly depends on your usual sleep position.

Side Sleeping

If you sleep on your side, you may be putting too much pressure in your hips. Without a contouring sleep surface, this position can aggravate hip pain. For side sleepers, a medium-soft surface provides support and pressure relief at your hips. A comfort layer of memory foam cushions your hips as it helps keep your spine in a neutral position.

Back Sleeping

Sleeping on your back can be beneficial for hip pain because your weight is evenly distributed.  However, you want to make sure that your pelvic area is not strained on an overly firm surface. A medium-firm mattress provides just enough contouring without letting your lower back and hips sink into the mattress.

Stomach Sleeping

Although this position can be the least beneficial for your lower back and hips, the right mattress can help prevent hip pain in stomach sleepers. If you sleep on your stomach, the front of your body can sink into a mattress that’s too soft. Your spine and hips will be out of whack, causing pressure in your hips. If you sleep on your stomach, the best mattress for hip pain will have a medium-firm feel to help keep your back, shoulders and hips proper aligned.

How Do I Find the Best Mattress for Hip Pain?

Now you have an idea of the mattress features and types of mattresses that are good for hip pain. The best mattress for you partly depends on personal preference. Do you prefer a mattress with cooling technology? Is a memory foam topper a must-have feature? What is your usual sleep position?
