Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid: What are the Top Features?

  • Premium CoolContour memory foam that contours to your body and relieves pressure
  • Lumbar support with 100% natural latex layer & patented Lumbar Zone quilt cover

What Makes the Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid Different?

Unlike a traditional hybrid mattress, the Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid uses proprietary materials to provide a cooler sleep surface and pressure relief. It does so by using the latest technology, combining gel-infused memory foam, AirCradle memory foam and pocketed comfort coils.

The Saatva model also stands out because it is not a mattress in a box, which is a popular type of online mattress. Rather than keeping with the box concept, Saatva creates the Memory Foam Hybrid Mattress that is delivered white glove, rather than being stuffed in a box.

Finally, the design is contemporary because it combines foams and pocketed coils, in a proprietary way that provides a lot of movement. Some people may find that there is more movement than a mattress that consists only of memory foam.

Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid Mattress Review of Construction

This hybrid mattress is made of 6 layers. It is 11.5 inches thick.

At the top is an organic cotton cover that feels soft and is naturally breathable. It is hypoallergenic, which is good news to anyone with sensitivities at night and has a patented lumbar zone quilt package.

The zoned quilt provides comfort and extra support in the center third of the mattress to encourage correct spinal alignment. A plant-based thistle flame barrier is also part of this package, and we appreciate the safety feature.

Below the cover is a 1/2-inch gel-infused lumbar support layer made of 100% natural latex. The latex lumbar support crown works with the lumbar zone quilt package above it to support the lower back and draw away heat. This feature will appeal to some people who seek more back support.

The crown also provides extra strength and durability in the section of the mattress that holds most of the sleeper’s weight. Finally, the latex layer is made to provide a more responsive feel for some people than a traditional foam mattress.

Underneath the support layer is the 1 ½-inch Air Cradle memory foam layer briefly mentioned earlier. With a unique wave design, the foam draws air from the upper layers down to the lower layers while providing comfort.

This layer works with the 8-inch pocketed comfort coils to promote airflow. Pocketed or individually wrapped coils are also known to provide ample support and prevent motion transfer.

Last is the high-density foam rails and 1-inch support core designed to prevent sagging and provide edge support. This highly resilient and dense material gives you stable, balanced support designed for a comfier sleep.

Sizes Available

Saatva’s Memory Foam Hybrid comes in standard mattress sizes. They are:

  • King
  • Cal King
  • Split King
  • Queen
  • Full
  • Twin
  • Twin XL

It’s nice to see the range of sizes to meet different sleep environments. For example, couples will have more room to spread out in a King size mattress than a Twin.

As the sizes increase, so too does the price. Still, it remains affordable for a luxury hybrid mattress.

Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid Mattress Review: Pros and Any Limitations

There are a lot of great features about this mattress, as well as potential drawbacks. As with our other reviews, this one provides both so that you can better understand what to expect from the Memory Foam Hybrid Mattress.

Cooling Approach

The mattress design overcomes a significant disadvantage of traditional memory foam, which is that it tends to sleep hot. To help prevent the sleeper from waking up in the middle of the night sweating, the mattress uses a triple-phase LuxeCool system.

First, the gel-infused memory foam lumbar crown draws away heat. Next, the AirCradle memory foam promotes airflow with its unique wave design. These layers works with the pocketed coil layer below, which maintains air circulation and sends heat away from your body.

When taken together, these three layers form a powerful heat management system. Some sleepers may enjoy a cool sleep surface that enables them to sleep comfortably through the night without waking up because of overheating.

Another benefit of this triple-phase approach is that the sleeper can receive more support. This is because hot foams have less structure and rigidity than cool foams and pocketed coils.

Ease of Movement

Many sleepers like memory foam mattresses because they have a hug-like feel, and Saatva’s Memory Foam Hybrid is designed to provide that. It also goes beyond traditional hybrid models with a proprietary combination of foams and coils that can offer more resilience.

The result is a more responsive mattress, making it easier to move on top of it than a strictly memory foam or traditional hybrid type. A heavier person may want a mattress with a great ease of movement as it will prevent a sinking, trapped kind of feeling. A responsive mattress is also conducive to sexual activity, so couples may want to consider this feature when shopping.

Visit Saatva

Off-Gassing

Furthermore, the natural materials in this hybrid mattress, such as the 100% natural latex layer and organic cotton cover, reduce the risks of chemical off-gassing. This feature is likely to be important to someone with scent sensitivities and those who want better indoor air quality in their home.

Lumbar Support

Lower back pain can affect the bottom vertebrae in the lumbar area. If you are sleeping in a position that does not properly support your back and spine, you may experience back pain. To help with these issues, the Memory Foam Hybrid Mattress is designed with superior lumbar support in mind.

The lumbar support features help to protect the back while sleeping. First, the natural latex layer provides extra support in the lower back area with its latex lumbar support crown. The crown also provides extra durability and strength where most of the body’s weight is while asleep.

Further support comes from the lumbar zone quilt cover. It is composed of soft foam and a natural thistle and wool blend flame barrier, to provide support and comfort in the center third portion of the Saatva mattress. The design encourages a healthy sleep by positioning the body such that it is more likely to have proper alignment of the spine.

Price

The Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid is slightly above mid-range for price in the mattress category. While it is not the cheapest option, it is a great value for a luxury hybrid mattress, in our opinion.

The mattress design includes cutting-edge technology, high-quality foams, pocketed coils and thoughtful construction. Plus, white glove delivery is included across the US, and there are occasionally discounts on the company website. The mattress also comes with a good sleep trial and warranty.

White Glove Delivery

As earlier mentioned, the Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid is not a mattress in a box. Rather than being compressed, folded, and rolled into a box to ship to the consumer’s home, this particular mattress includes free white glove delivery and setup in any bedroom in the US. It is not at risk of foam cell structures breaking down and creating issues like uneven firmness from being stuffed into a box for shipping.

Thus, Saatva will arrange to deliver and set up the mattress in your bedroom of choice. We appreciate this high level of care, especially since it is free. Not everyone is handy at putting furniture together, and a mattress can be awkward to handle because of its size.

Sleep Trial and Warranty of the Saatva Memory Foam Mattress

Saatva includes a 365-night sleep trial with your new mattress. That means you can try it out at home for 365 nights after purchase to decide if it meets your sleep needs. We think that being able to test out the mattress for many nights like this is superior to laying on it in a physical store for a few minutes.

If you decide it is not right for you, you can return it within the trial period for a refund. Please note that there is a return delivery cost.

Also, a lifetime warranty comes with the Memory Foam Hybrid Mattress. We encourage you to read the warranty in full to understand what that includes. In our opinion, the warranty period is generous, which speaks to the high customer service standards set by Saatva.

It is important to know too that Saatva can change its policies at any point in time. We are not responsible for any discrepancies between this review and its policies if there are changes.

Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid Mattress Conclusion

This mattress is a luxury model that combines various types of foam and coils for potentially powerful effects. For example, it can offer lumbar back support for proper spinal alignment, which can help prevent soreness in the lower back the next day.

The luxurious Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid has many great qualities, including helping the sleeper stay cool all night. It is also a great value for a luxury mattress and even includes white glove delivery and set up in the US. There are many sizes available too. For these reasons, we recommend the Saatva Memory Foam Mattress.

Puffy Mattress Review: Pros and any Limitations

We’ve covered how the mattress is made. Now we can look at what it’s like to sleep on a Puffy mattress. After our research and review, we believe the Puffy mattress has the following benefits and minor limitations.

Balance Between Comfort and Support

Thanks to its 5-layer construction, you get a balance between support and comfort with the Puffy mattress. The gel-infused foam combines with the humidity-resistant foam to cradle your body at a comfortably cool temperature. You’ll love the pressure relief and cloud-like feeling as you drift to sleep.

The high-density support foam helps keep your spine in proper alignment. All the layers combine to help keep you comfortable all night and wake up refreshed the next morning.

Motion Isolation

Ideal for couples, the Puffy mattress prevents motion from transferring from one side of the mattress to the other. Whether you’re tossing and turning or just have to get out of bed in the middle of the night, you don’t want to disturb your partner. The motion isolation feature is one more way the Puffy mattress helps you get a good night’s sleep.

Whether you sleep on your side, back or stomach, the medium-firm feel gives you the support, contouring and pressure relief you need no matter what sleep position you prefer. By the way, if you and your spouse or partner have different sleep preferences, medium-firm can be comfy for both of you.

The Puffy mattress also has a generous weight capacity — another feature that makes it suitable for all types of sleepers. Twin, twin XL and full sizes can hold 350 pounds. Queen, king and California king mattresses have a maximum capacity of 350 pounds on each side.

Keeps You Cool

The Puffy mattress includes temperature-regulating features that keep cool, dry and comfortable all night. Infused with cooling gel, the Cooling Cloud foam prevents the comfort layer from retaining body heat. The Climate Comfort foam is 2 inches of humidity resistance.

101 Nights Risk-Free Trial

The 101-Night Sleep Trial gives you more than three months to try the Puffy mattress at home. It can take a full month to break in a new mattress, especially if your previous mattress is old and soft.

Works with Most Bed Types

If you have a favorite bed frame or type of foundation, it will likely work with the Puffy mattress. You can even place it directly on the floor. Suitable bed frames and foundations include

  • Box spring
  • Slatted bed frame
  • Platform bed frame
  • Adjustable base

Wait Time After Unboxing

The convenience of a mattress in a box is great, but be prepared to wit before you can use the Puffy mattress. Since the mattress is compressed and rolled to fit in the shipping container, you must allow at least two hours after unboxing for the mattress to expand. You also want to let air circulate to dissipate any unpleasant but harmless odors.

Made in the USA

If you’re like many shoppers in the USA, you like to buy products that are made right here. The Puffy mattress is designed and manufactured in the USA. From the CertiPUR-US certified foams to the hypoallergenic cover, you can feel good knowing your purchase is USA-made.

Puffy Mattress Review: Concluding Thoughts

Designed with most sleepers in mind, the Puffy mattress offers support and luxurious comfort. Its 5 layers provide contouring and pressure relief while the high-density foam base supports your spine. Unlike traditional foam mattresses, the Puffy contains cooling gel and an anti-humidity layer so you won’t wake up hot and sweaty.

You’ll love the removable, washable mattress cover. It’s hypoallergenic and stain-resistant, and you can give it a good washing as needed.

The medium-firm feel makes this mattress a good choice for most types of sleepers. You get the pressure relief and support you need, whether you sleep on your side, back or stomach. If you and your partner have differing firmness preferences, medium-firm can be a comfortable compromise.

Speaking of couples, the motion isolation feature can help both partners sleep through the night. The high-density support layer prevents motion transfer, so you won’t know the difference when your partner gets out of bed during the night.

Plus-size sleepers will appreciate the weight capacity of this mattress. The smaller mattress sizes can bear 350 pounds, while the larger sizes can hold 350 pounds on each side.

Puffy stands by their mattress with a lifetime warranty and a 101-night sleep trial. According to the warranty, Puffy will replace a defective mattress purchase as long as you own it. The 101-night sleep trial gives you plenty of time to decide if you want to keep the mattress. It’s nice to know that a company shows that much confidence in their product.

The Puffy mattress provides comfort, support and temperature control. We have researched and reviewed the Puffy mattress and believe it is a quality product of value.

Six Helix Mattress Types

The six Helix Mattresses that we focus on here vary by amount of support and firmness. They are:

  • Sunset
  • Moonlight
  • Midnight
  • Dusk
  • Twilight
  • Dawn

The mattresses come in the most common sizes: Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, King, and California King. So you can choose which size best meets your needs. We love the ability to personalize the Helix Mattress by firmness and support, as we explain below.

Top 3 Features of the Helix Mattresses

  • Personalize Your Design
  • Great Edge Support
  • 100 Night Sleep Trial

Comparing Helix Firmness Levels

Sunset and Moonlight are soft for firmness level. So, what does soft or plush feel like? Imagine how it would be to sink into a cloud and you’ll be thinking along the right lines.

As for Dusk and Midnight, they both have a medium feel. When laying on either one, you would feel more like you are on top of it than sinking into it as you would with a softer option.

There is still a bit of give to a medium firm mattress though, unlike with a firm feel mattress. Twilight and Dawn are examples of the latter type; they are firmer than the four others.

Does the Helix Mattress sound like a good fit for you? See what else buyers have to say

How Much Mattress Support Is There?

The amount of support a mattress provides varies from model to model. A Helix mattress will be either a balanced support design or extra support. “Balanced” means that it distributes weight evenly to reduce tossing and turning in the night. Extra support refers to the feeling of an extra supportive mattress.

Within the softest options, the Helix Sunset mattress offers balanced support, while Moonight is designed for extra support. For the medium firm models, Dusk has extra support, whereas Moonlight has balanced support. Helix Twilight and Dawn are the firmest ones; Twilight has balanced support while Helix Dawn has extra support.

Sleep Positions and Helix Mattresses

Now that you see the differences in support and firmness for the six Helix hybrid mattresses, you are likely wondering which one to choose. The one that will feel the best and provide you the most comfortable, uninterrupted sleep, of course! But, which model is it? Obviously each body is different so what you prefer might not be the same for your best friend. But generally these are how users rate the models for different sleeping positions:

  • Side sleeper – Helix Midnight, Twilight, and Sunset get high marks from side sleepers for providing good pressure relief.
  • All sleep positions – Moonlight, Dusk, and Dawn each receive favorable ratings from back, side, stomach, and combination sleepers.

Please keep in mind that these reviews are for average weight sleepers. “Average” is between 125-225 lbs. Ratings may change with a lighter or heavier weight as it changes the feel of the mattress. We are simply pointing out the average ratings to give you an idea of what to expect from each Helix mattress we discuss here.

Helix Plus Mattress for Heavy People

Helix Plus specifically designed for plus size sleepers:
  • Type: 4-layer hybrid mattress
  • High-density 4lb foam layer for maximum support
  • 15-year warranty
  • Medium-firm feel
  • 100-night trial
  • Free shipping & returns

Hybrid Construction of the Helix Mattresses

Each of these beds are hybrid, meaning that they combine premium memory foam with innerspring. They are also American-made. Rather than being all foam or all coil, they are a combination for the best of both worlds. They are well-made with great edge support to provide more surface room for rolling out, which is ideal if you regularly sleep with a partner. And if you sit on the edge of the bed to put on your socks, you’re less likely to roll right off than with one that has poor edge support.

The exact construction differs according to the model, which explains why they provide different levels of firmness and support. We like that the bed is personalized to you; choose the one that provides the best feel based on your unique body. When doing so, 36% report a better sleep quality with a Helix mattress than with their previous one. The design is meant to provide spinal support and alignment.

All six Hybrid mattresses share the ability to provide optimal airflow. Some reviewers online comment on the coolness of the mattress, which helps prevent you from waking up during the night due to feeling too hot. An Ultra-Cool Cover is available too if you want an upgrade.

Two optional bases are also available from Helix. They are the Helix Adjustable Base and Helix Platform Base.

Helix Adjustable Base

Optimize your sleep comfort by adding a Helix Adjustable Bed Base to your Helix mattress. This type of base fits many sizes of adjustable bed frames, including Twin XL, Queen, Split King, and Split Cali King.

Among the top features of the Helix Adjustable Base are:

  • Adjusts at the head and feet
  • Dual massage areas
  • “Zero Gravity” setting

The Helix Adjustable Base comes with a remote control that enables you to easily lift or lower the head and feet of the mattress. Achieve an elevation you like, whether you are reaching in bed, watching TV, or want to sleep.

Raising the head, for example, can be helpful for someone who has acid reflux. Raising the head and legs to achieve a seeming weightlessness or “Zero Gravity” can benefit someone who wants less pressure on their lower back. The remote even has memory settings so you can return to that same great position whenever you want to do so.

The Helix Adjustable Base also has 3D-Wave™ Massage Technology. Enjoy a massage for the head and legs with this built-in feature. There are three intensity settings; simply choose the one you prefer.

This durable, adjustable base is made of foam, steel, solid wood, and fabric upholstery. It has a minimalistic, modern appearance that completes the look of the bed, and reviewers explain that assembly only takes about 15 minutes. While there is no sleep trial included, there is free shipping to the home and a Limited Warranty for up to 10-15 years (depends on mattress choice).

Helix Platform Base

The Helix Platform Base is another option for a proper foundation. The wood frame is used in place of a mattress foundation. It fits with your selected Helix mattress as it comes in all the popular sizes, including Twin XL, Queen, King, and California King.

Helix offers two options for the Platform Base so that you get the look you want.

The two choices are:

  • Natural wood
  • White wood

The wood frame has a refined, minimalistic appearance, and it is made of top-quality natural materials. The bed rails are made of Appalachian hardwood, while the slats are sturdy Southern Yellow Pine, and the legs are Appalachian Maple. Those are the only materials, and all wood finishes are water-based, which means there are no volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that can potentially lead to nausea or headaches.

The Appalachian hardwood is reinforced for durability and strength. It is handmade in the U.S. and does not require any tools to assemble.

Included with this Helix Platform Base is 100 night sleep trial so you can decide if it is right for you. At the time of writing this review, there is also a five year warranty, and free shipping directly to your home.

Helix Mattress Sleep Trial and Warranty

Sunset, Moonlight, Midnight, Dusk, Twilight, and Dawn all come with a 100 night sleep trial. Rather than just having a few minutes in a store to lay down on a bed now you have 100 nights to test out the bed. Is it comfortable enough for you? Does it support you at your pressure points? Having a lengthy time to make sure it’s the right bed for you (and your partner) is great.

Furthermore, the Helix Mattresses come with a 10-15 year limited warranty (depends on mattress choice). Please note this only applies to the original owner of the bed and has limitations. Also, we are not responsible for any changes Helix makes to the warranty, sleep trial, and other policies after our review publishes.

As for the mattress price, it is affordable. As it is online-only, there is no middleman. This means that there’s no extra cost to pay. It ships to your house and many reviewers explain they received their bed within a reasonable time.

Concluding Thoughts on Helix Mattresses

Now you have the comparison of six Helix mattresses: Sunset, Moonlight, Midnight, Dusk, Twilight, and Dawn. They vary by construction to provide different support and firmness, according to your sleep preferences. What they have in common is good edge support, premium materials, affordable prices, and personalization. After looking over all of the details, we recommend the Helix Midnight Luxe mattress. And if you look for a mattress for heavy people, we recommend the Helix Plus mattress.

Construction

Emma’s Original Hybrid mattress is built for support, comfort and temperature control. In the following sections, we break down its features and construction.

UltraDry Original Cover

Let’s start with the UltraDry Original Cover. Made of breathable, moisture-wicking fabric, it prevents overheating and keeps you dry. It’s removable and washable too.

Cloud Comfort Layer

You’ll love how the Emma Original Hybrid combines a plush feel with just enough bounce. With a balance of support and contouring, the graphite-infused comfort layer won’t give you that sinking feeling. It cradles your body and springs back when you change position.

ParticleCool Premium Foam

Traditional foam can trap heat as it contours to your body. The Emma Original Hybrid’s memory foam layer, however, is designed to keep you cool. The ParticleCool Premium foam is  infused with graphite to draw away moisture and heat. According to the Emma website, it can keep you up to 2 degrees cooler than trad memory foam.

  • Zoned support for your lower back, shoulders, neck and hips.
  • Keeps you cool by creating air pockets.
  • Provide edge support.
  • Prevent motion transfer across the mattress surface.

HRX Supreme Foam

The HRX stands form ”high resiliency extra”, and that’s exactly what you get with this layer. The durable foam prevents sagging and distributes body weight evenly across the mattress. That means you get ample support and stability, along with pressure relief at your spine, shoulders and hips.

Emma Base

Finally, the durable base layer adds more edge support to the Emma Original Hybrid. This layer adds reinforcement to the perimeter of the mattress.

Your Choice of Sizes

Along with support and comfort, size is a major consideration when buying a mattress. At 11 inches thick, the Emma Original Hybrid is available in the following sizes.

  • Twin — 38” W × 75” L
  • Twin XL — 38” W × 80” L

Firmness

This firmness level is ideal for side, back and stomach sleepers. It’s also great for couples who have differing firmness preferences.

Emma Original Hybrid Review: Benefits and Any Drawbacks

We’ve covered the top features of the Emma Original Hybrid. After our research and review, we believe the Emma Original Hybrid mattress has the following pros as well as limitations.

Stay Cool and Dry

You can enjoy the plush contouring comfort of the Emma Original Hybrid mattress without breaking into a sweat. The open-cell foam and breathable cover allow air to circulate and carry away body heat. The springs act as bellows to regulate air flow, and the graphite-infused memory foam stays cool, even as it hugs your body. The moisture-wicking memory foam and cover also keep you dry. Even if you tend to sleep hot, you’ll stay cool and comfy.

Balance of Comfort and Support

Whether you sleep on your side, back or stomach, you can stability and comfort where you need it. The 8-inch pocket springs target extra support to your back, shoulders and hips. The softer comfort layer and memory foam contour to your natural shape, preventing gaps between your body and the mattress. The result? Pressure relief for your lower back and joints to help prevent morning aches and stiffness.

Motion Isolation

Another benefit of the pocket coil core is motion isolation. In other words, the coils prevent motion from transferring across the mattress surface. This feature is especially helpful for couples. If you frequently change sleep position or have to get out of bed during the night, your partner can sleep right through it.

CertiPUR-US Certified Foams

You can have peace of mind when you bring the Emma Original Hybrid mattress into your home. All of the foam in the mattress is CertiPUR-US certified, which means they are free of harmful chemicals such as formaldehyde, phthalates, toxic heavy metals and flame retardants. The mattress is also environmentally friendly, with low VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) emissions.

Generous 365-Night Sleep Trial

You can’t know right away if a mattress will be comfortable. The break-in period alone lasts about 30 days. The adjustment period is extra long if you’re used to sleeping on an old, soft mattress. Every Emma Original Hybrid mattress comes with a 365-night sleep trial. Beginning with delivery day, you get to try the mattress at home for a whole year.

The company recommends giving it a few weeks before you decide whether to keep the mattress. If you are not happy with the Emma Original Hybrid, the company will arrange a free pickup and refund.

Convenient Shipping to Your Door

When you order the Emma Original Hybrid, it will be shipped in a box to your door, even if you’re not home. Before shipping, the mattress is compressed and rolled to fit in the box. No more waiting around for a delivery team or arranging transportation from a store showroom.

A mattress in a box is very heavy, so it’s best to ask someone to help you carry the box  it into your bedroom. After you unbox it, you may have to wait a few hours for it to decompress. There may be an unpleasant but harmless smell that will dissipate within a few days. Keep the bedroom well-ventilated while the mattress expands and airs out.

10-Year Warranty

Besides the sleep trial, Emma also backs its Original Hybrid mattress with a 10-year guaranteed warranty. The company will replace a mattress that is found defective with normal use. Coverage includes defects such as cracks in the foam and impressions deeper than 1.5 inches that do not spring back. Warranty terms can change at any time, so make sure you check the most up-to-date warranty terms before buying the mattress.

Payment Plans Available

One more thing to like about buying the Emma Original Hybrid is the availability of payment plans. After all, a mattress is a major investment. Emma has partnered with Zip and Shop Pay to provide financing. To apply, just choose Zip or Shop Pay at checkout.

Emma Original Hybrid Mattress Review: Final Thoughts

The Emma Original Hybrid mattress combines the contouring memory foam with the targeted support of pocket coils.  Breathable materials and advanced cooling technologies make this mattress a comfortable sleep surface for side, back and stomach sleepers. With a medium-firm feel, it’s a great option for spouses or partners who prefer different firmness levels.

The contouring comfort layer is plush and responsive at the same time. Premium memory foam adds another conforming layer. Combine these layers with zoned support from the pocket coil core, and you have pressure relief for your spine, shoulders and hips. High-resiliency foam and a durable base add stability and edge support.

A comfortable temperature is essential for a good night’s sleep. The Emma Original Hybrid has a breathable cover and open-cell memory foam to help you sleep cool. Plus, the individually wrapped coils create air pockets that help regulate temperature.

The coil core also provides motion isolation. This is an especially valuable feature for couples, families or pet parents. Your sleep won’t be disturbed and you can wake up refreshed in the morning.

After a few weeks and before the end of the trial, you can return the mattress for free and get a full refund.

Payment plans are available through Zip and Shop Pay, making a mattress purchase a little easier on the budget. You can apply for both options at checkout.

From its coil core to its premium foam layers, we have researched and reviewed the Emma Original Hybrid mattress. We believe it is a quality product that provides value.

Saatva’s Loom & Leaf Mattress Materials

Loom & Leaf by Saatva uses high-density foam. There is both convoluted and contouring memory foam. The convoluted type forms the 2-inch top layer; it is laminated with proprietary Spinal Zone Gel. Below that is 5 lbs of contouring foam (2.5 inches).

Beneath that is a luxurious 2-inch transition layer. As for the 5.5-inch base, it is high-density foam that provides stability for the layers above it. With an organic cotton cover on the mattress top, the Loom & Leaf Mattress is 12 inches high in total.

Loom & Leaf Material and Design Benefits

This mattress has four layers that work off one another to provide healthy comfort. Let’s start with the 4 lb convoluted memory foam layer provides support and also has good breathability with its airflow channels.

It has a gel-swirl construction that evenly distributes the cooling sensation across the whole foam layer, and the special gel provides ideal spinal support. A cooling gel spinal panel laminated onto this layer in the lumbar area of the mattress concentrates the gel where the body typically retains heat. Air circulation is good too, thanks to the inverted foam tip design. All of this works together smartly to keep the body feeling refreshed rather than too hot.

As for the high-quality 5 lb foam layer, it stays naturally cool. The Loom & Leaf mattress foams are U.S.-made, and the 5 lb foam is denser than many brands. This memory foam layer has CertiPUR-US certification too, which means it meets strict guidelines for indoor emissions, environment, and physical performance.

The transition layer between the 5 lb foam layer and the high-density base enables the various levels of this bed to complement one another. Together they are designed to provide comfort and support, all while conforming to the body. The conforming foam goes easy on the body’s pressure points, such as the hips and back.

Lastly, the organic cotton cover is breathable to help you stay cool during the night. It has natural thistle for a flame retardant so you can have peace of mind when it comes to safety. The cover also has a mini foam layer in it that feels comfortable for the resting body.

What is the Firmness?

Great question! While many memory foam mattresses have a single firmness level, Loom & Leaf by Saatva has two options. Choose the one you like best. Being able to customize the firmness is one of the things we love best about this Loom & Leaf mattress.

Choose from these two firmness levels:

  • Relaxed Firm – Saatva’s Loom & Leaf describes this as “just right” support. It is not overly soft or too firm.
  • Firm – If you want a firmer feel then this one will likely be your preference of the two.

On a 1-10 rating, where 1 is full soft and 10 is very hard, the Loom & Leaf website puts Relaxed Firm in the middle and Firm at closer to the 10 side. For stomach, side, or back sleepers, or a combination sleeper, relaxed firm is likely to be the better of the two. Meanwhile, stomach or back sleepers may find a firmer feel to be more comfortable.

Loom & Leaf Pricing

With its ultra-premium materials, this foam Loom & Leaf from Saatva is slightly higher in price than average, however, in fact, it is comparable to a Tempur-Pedic yet sells at a lower price. And set up is FREE, as we explain in the next section of this mattress review. It won’t fit everyone’s budget, unfortunately. But we feel it is worth paying a bit more for a mattress that several online reviewers describe as supportive and very comfortable. After all, we spend a good part of our lives lying down. As one user writes, sleeping on the stomach or back is comfortable, and there’s no uncomfortable sinking feeling like with some other memory foam brands.

Being able to shift positions can be difficult to do with some other memory foam designs. This one has cushion yet still offers support. So shifting the body is easy. Plus, the use of top-quality materials makes it more likely that this bed will last longer than one with a subpar construction.

What about Couples Who Share a Mattress?

We wish this model has more edge support, a feature that couples can appreciate. Having more surface space comes with good edge support, while weaker ones provide less room. Then again, the Loom & Leaf by Saatva memory foam bed rates very well for motion isolation in more than one web review. This means that it has little to no mattress movement when your partner is shifting during the night. As a result, you can get a good sleep even if your partner moves around a lot.

Tip: Always good to read verified buyer reviews

Eco-Friendly Construction

Many people will also appreciate that this Loom & Leaf mattress is eco-friendly. We’ve already mentioned its organic cotton cover. It also has an antimicrobial fabric treatment to deter bacteria. The foams are environmentally-friendly too; the foam supplies use renewable oils to make them and lower greenhouse gasses than in typical foam manufacturing stages. Plus, you won’t find mercury, ozone depleters, or heavy metals in the construction.

What’s Special about Saatva’s Loom & Leaf?

We’ve already mentioned the high-density memory foam and different firmness levels. Another unique quality is how it comes delivered to your doorstep. While most online-only mattress brands ship the product rolled in a box, Saatva’s Loom & Leaf sends it whole. The delivery people set up the mattress in your home for you. Some other brands charge you extra for set up, if they offer this White Glove service at all. One web review describes the delivery as quick and to the point; the mattress was set up in in-home within only 30 minutes.

Also, the Loom & Leaf Mattress warranty is longer than some other brands. It comes with a lifetime warranty, which is valuable consumer protection. The sleep trial is also long at 365-nights. Having the ability to try out the mattress that many times to decide if it’s right for your sleeping needs makes much more sense than a few minutes of lying down on a bed in a store showroom. If you’re not happy with it, Saatva’s Loom & Leaf will take it back if you meet the policy conditions. But you have to pay the transportation fee.

Tip: Loom & Leef mattress by Saatva is covered by a great warranty program

Final Words on the Loom & Leaf Mattress Review

For a memory foam enthusiast, Loom & Leaf by Saatva offers many benefits. It can suit any sleep position as you can choose between two firmness options. What’s more, it has a cushioned feel while also providing great spinal support and being gentle on pressure points.

There’s integrated gel too, which helps prevent the body from overheating. While it has a few minor limitations, such as low edge support, this mattress is made from luxury materials to last longer and provide high comfort. The eco-friendly construction will satisfy consumers who want to reduce their environmental footprint. When put together, the 4-layer Loom & Leaf mattress provides a cool, comfortable experience that promotes great sleep quality. What Makes the Best Memory Foam Mattress?

Memory foam is a popular material, but that doesn’t mean that every memory foam mattress is the same quality. You work hard for your money, so we point out the differences between them, including how some rate better than others on cooling, motion isolation, and more. And our analyses are in-depth so that you get a good understanding of exactly what each memory foam mattress can provide you and an honest look at where it could use some improvement if any at all. We point out our recommended brands and tell you what we think about them; we hope you like our refreshing take on bedding and find one that suits your needs.

Is There Only One Type of Memory Foam?

No. There are three main foam types in a memory foam mattress: polyurethane, plant-derived, and gel. Manufacturers are increasingly using plant types of memory foam for their eco-friendly benefits. As for gel, it is helpful for reducing overheating issues that some people associated with traditional memory foam, so that the body can be cooler during the night for a good sleep. What do these three key types of foam have in common? The quality they all share is that the material returns to its original shape when you move. That’s where the term “memory” foam comes from, in case you were curious about it.

Can a Memory Foam Mattress Ease Back Pain?

There is no single answer to this question. But we can tell you that some brands are specifically designed to help alleviate back pain. Whether it is effective at doing so or not depends on many factors, including your specific back condition and the mattress. Is it worth testing out the support of the best memory foam mattress at home during a risk-free sleep trial? That’s for you to decide, but we encourage you to find out all about the recommended brands and models in our memory foam mattress reviews. In the genuine reviews, you’ll see how they stack up to one another and the best features of each one, as well as the great return policies of many bed-in-the-box brands. A supportive mattress is out there waiting for you.

Do Memory Foam Mattresses Sleep Hot?

In the past, all-foam mattresses were known for making the sleep surface warm, which would wake up some sleepers. However, many popular memory foam mattresses today overcome this challenge with features that help keep sleepers cooler The best memory foam mattresses may include features like gel memory foam and breathable covers, which help neutralize the body’s temperature to prevent overheating at night. That can make for uninterrupted sleep, so you are more likely to feel refreshed the next day. In each memory foam mattress review, we provide you with details about construction and materials to help determine if there are cooling features and, if so, what they are.

Memory Foam vs. Latex

Understanding the construction and feel of different mattress types can help you determine which one you prefer. One is not necessarily better than other; it comes down to personal preference. A major difference between memory foam and latex is how they conform to the body. Memory foam conforms to your unique body shape, while latex instead compresses and bounces. Latex only conforms to the general impression of the body, rather than being exact like memory foam. Another difference between memory foam and latex is how well they isolate motion. Memory foam typically provides excellent motion isolation, which means you are unlikely to feel a movement on the other side of this type of mattress if it is made well. That makes a memory foam mattress one that many couples prefer as they won’t wake up even if their partner moves during the night.  Unfortunately, latex does not isolate motion as well as memory foam. As latex is bouncy, you are likely to feel your partner move on the other side of the bed.

Memory Foam vs. Innerspring

An innerspring mattress typically has more bounce than a memory foam one. Whether you like this feeling or not is a personal preference.  In comparison to innerspring, a memory foam mattress usually conforms better to the body. That is because memory foam fits every curve of the body. However, it tends to be less responsive than an innerspring model. While traditional all-foam mattresses were known to sleep hot, many popular memory foam mattresses online now have cooling features that overcome this challenge. A gel memory foam layer is one example. Interestingly, many innerspring models today incorporate memory foam in them. As for the feel of each mattress type, memory foam models tend to have at least a bit of a sinking feeling to them. If you like the feel of sleeping “in” a mattress rather than “on” it, you will prefer it. On the other hand, if you want little to no sink and like the feeling of sleeping “on” a mattress rather than “in” it, you might want to look for an innerspring mattress.

When is a Memory Foam Mattress the Right Choice for You?

By now, you are likely wondering if memory foam is the right choice for you. This mattress type is known for evening out the body’s weight and conforming to the natural curve of the spine. However, there are other things to consider.

Feel

For example, if you want a hugging feeling as you sleep, memory foam provides it. Some people find this sensation to be very comforting and helps them fall asleep.

Motion Transfer

A memory foam mattress may also be suitable for couples who want to enjoy sleeping through the night even if their partner beside them tosses and turns. Memory foam has low motion transfer, so movement on the other side of the mattress is unlikely to reach you and wake you up.

Lifespan

Furthermore, memory foam is known to be long-lasting. Thus, this type is a good choice for those who want to get a long life out of their mattress. Of course, not all mattresses are made the same, so we encourage you to read the reviews here to determine how they are constructed, warranty details, and more.

Sleep Position

Sleeping position is another important consideration. If you primarily sleep on your back or side, a memory foam mattress might be the best one for you.  These sleeping styles are typically compatible with memory foam designs as they provide enough support and comfort. Combination sleepers may also find that memory foam mattresses are right for them.

Sleep Trial

A major benefit of choosing a mattress online is that it typically comes with a sleep trial. This trial period extends a certain number of nights, such as 100 nights, so that you can determine at home if the mattress is right for you.  If you decide it does not meet your sleep needs, many companies provide a refund within that trial period, provided you meet the policy requirements. This trial period improves consumer confidence in their decision, and we think trying out the mattress at home makes more sense than resting on it for a brief time in a mattress showroom.

What are CertiPUR-US® Certified Foams

In the best memory foam mattress reviews, you may notice details about CertiPUR-US® foams. While it is easy to skim over certifications, we encourage you to note them as indicative of the quality of the product. Foams that pass CertiPUR-US® certification are made without ozone depleters. The foam meets standards for emissions, content, and durability. In other words, a mattress that meets this high standard contains very low amounts of toxic chemicals. For shoppers who have sensitivities, this certification is important, as well as those who want to make an eco-friendlier choice and care about the indoor air quality in their home.

Is a Memory Foam Mattress Always Soft?

No. The firmness can vary from one model to another. The firmness is an important consideration when memory foam mattress shopping as it affects the level of comfort and impacts the support of the bed. While memory foam models are often softer than average, they can also be medium-soft and medium-firm.  The material is often known for providing great comfort and pressure point relief. If you are unsure what the firmness is of a mattress, our reviews will tell you this important detail.

Common Questions

Why choose a mattress online?

The main reason why people used to buy mattresses in a physical store was so that they could try it out. Now you can get a sleep trial and great warranty with a mattress bought online. The included sleep trial is actually better than trying it in the store because what you can sleep on the mattress for several nights before deciding whether to keep or return it – which is a heck of a lot longer than 5 or 10 minutes in a store, right?! Plus, most online companies focus on solely 1 or 2 models, rather than offering several types that might be confusing in a brick-and-mortar location.

How do I know if I need a new mattress?

Many people don’t think about when they last went mattress shopping. But a mattress is the most used piece of furniture you likely have in your home! And when you think about how many hours you spend on it a night, the time adds up quickly. So if it’s been over 8 years since your last one, you don’t wake up feeling rejuvenated in the morning anymore, or it has lost its shape, these are all common signs you need a new mattress.

Does my sleep position matter when choosing a mattress?

Yes! Many people don’t consider it but different types of firmness suit different sleep positions. Side sleepers, for example, typically prefer a soft or medium level of firmness. For back sleepers, a firmer mattress is essential for proper spinal alignment. Weight is another factor too as it affects how much support the body feels and the ability to feel comfortable.
